"Once a meek and lowly lamb, Now the Lord, the great I Am." In this gentle hymn setting, the first and second comings of the Savior are contrasted. While traditional images of Christmas center around the pastoral scene of the gentle babe in a manger of hay, it is because of the future mission of the child that the heavenly hosts sang at his birth. He who was above all things descended below all things in order to raise them up with him at the last day. "Once all things he meekly bore, But he now will bear no more." This moving arrangement draws largely upon the vocal setting of the original hymn, and is particularly appropriate for both Christmas and Easter services. (Catalogue: PM1004) |
